Ep 016: Jason's journey to an alcohol-free life
Nov 02, 2023 Episode 16

Jason sits down with Liz today to talk about his journey to a life of sobriety; all based on God persistently calling Jason to lay alcohol down once and for all. This has been an ongoing process for roughly 10 years in Jason's life and he talks about the struggle and wrestling with God, because Jason didn't see alcohol as a problem area in his life.

Liz finds out for the first time, on camera, a couple of key points of Jason's journey: first that this was something that he and God wrestled about for 10 years and that he had made this "decision" multiple times.

Jason shares about a trip he took to Montgomery, Alabama to learn about the civil rights movement and how deeply that impacted him. On the drive back home Jason asked God what he was supposed to do with all this information he had just learned and Jason heard God clear as day say "You won't even do the small thing I asked you to do." Yikes. Talk about a mic drop/gut punch for Jason.

However, Jason STILL wrestled with God for the next two years over this call to lay alcohol down. It wasn't quite the wake-up call that Jason needed to finally surrender this area of his life over to the Lord, even though he did remain alcohol free for the next few months. But then the pandemic hit in 2020 and Jason found himself picking it back up in April of that year. It wouldn't be until 2021 that Jason finally surrendered to God's calling.

Jason brought up an interesting point that just because he was called to a life of sobriety, it doesn't mean he believes having an alcoholic beverage is a sin. Jason just knows that it's a sin for him.
